Irritant started as Pustule in early 2001 with Cory D. and former guitarist Henry J. As musicians are difficult to come by in Duluth they composed their music with a drum machine.
In early 2002 former drummer Jeremy D. was recruited and Erik F. (me) took the vocal duties over. Shortly afterwards the name Pustule was retired and Irritant was born.
As stated earlier musicians are a rare commodity in the Twin Ports area, but bassists are virtually non-existent. It wasn't until late summer 2002 that Phil H. was found and agreed to take over bass duties.
Jeremy D. was let go a month later. What sucks worse than trying to find musicians in an environment such as this is having to fire them. Jeremy found his niche elsewhere, though, as guitarist for Golgotha's Pyre. More on this later. Anyway, Jeremy's position was filled by Chris B., an absolute fucking robot of a drummer.
April 2003 was the first time we played live. I must say the people in Duluth weren't ready for grind core. And we were a hell of a lot slower back then too. We did a lot of gigs that summer around Duluth and the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and had a blast UNTIL...
Henry J. jumped ship in early October of 2003 and moved away. He was a cornerstone in Irritant's sound and we wish him the best. He was replaced by Dustin M. who is also the creator of Golgotha's Pyre, with Jeremy D.
Our lineup has remained a constant since then. In our short tenure as a band our music has progressed, becoming faster and more brutal with every song. Our first demo, a testament of how brutality is to be played, no longer does us justice. Our first full length, "Narcolepticon", will redefine complexity and musicianship at oft times incomprehensibly fast speeds. We wouldn't have it any other way.
